Stratford Raceway Half Marathon - 19/03/2011
www.stuweb.co.uk
Wendy Clark was the sole Strider in this 4 lap half marathon distance race around a motor racing circuit.
She did us proud, finishing 47th (6th lady) in a sparkling new PB time of 1:33:20. Wendy attributes her
success to the Striders Monday night torture sessions led by the club's good looking lifestyle coach.

Big Cow Duathlon 2 - 27/03/2011

Mark Shead was the only Strider to race in this multisport bonanza. The race comprised a 5k run followed by 20k on the bike and finished off with a leg sapping (but mercifully flat) 5.4k run. Mark ran well in the first run
and was steady on the bike leg. The final run was a bit slower than intended but overall it was a good performance
and he did the Monday night group proud. Mark finished 16th in 1:18:11.

Virgin London Marathon - Sunday 17th April 2011
www.virginlondonmarathon.com
On April 17th 2011 Gary Martin ran the Virgin London Marathon for the Shenley Striders after winning a place through the clubs raffle.
He completed this, his first ever marathon in 3hour 39minutes 19seconds, a time that he was extremely happy with.
The day itself was a cool start but quickly warmed up and become a challenging race, however this did not spoil the fun and fantastic atmosphere London had to offer not to mention all the free sweets being handed out by the lovely spectators.

Two Castles 10K - Sunday 12th June 2011
www.twocastlesrun.org.uk
On the 12th June 2011 Simon Gurney ran the Two Castles 10K. Paula entered also but was a no show as she decided she would prefer to see Take That in Manchester this evening - I can't believe it either. But some would say GOOD CHOICE PAULA.
This is a linear race between Warwick Castle and Kenilworth Castle over underlating roads with the emphasis on up - net gain of 57m. Although sunny weather was forecast, the race was run entirely in the rain, often heavy.
After a congested 9am start, Simon finished in a time of 44:40 in 303rd place out of 3,071 finishers. This is a PB on this course (having run the 3 years previous).
And Paula really enjoyed Take That live.
Marston Forest 5K - 17th June 2011
326 runners squelched their way round the course in heavy rain. 2 Striders completed the race:
Simon Gurney - 68th place in chip time of 20:38
John Stevenson-Hoare - 165th place in chip time of 24:23
Geoff New (representing Milton Keynes) - 83rd place in chip time of 20:55

EMGP race - Weedon 10K - Tuesday 21st June 2011
4 Striders completed the Weedon 10K. Before the race, the start marshall described the race as not "PB potential but interesting". The course follows scenic country lanes but is hilly with a very tough hill just before halfway. Fortunately the last 2K is downhill giving some scope to claw back some time. Andrew Kirschner was first Strider home in 56th place in 40:24. Simon Gurney and Steve Clarke split the Kirschner Boys - Simon recording a time of 44:45 in 129th place, Steve 47:15 in 176th place. Simon Kirschner finished in a time of 47:36 in 184th place. Notable mention should go to Steve Clarke for a magnificent sprint to the finish line to overtake a fellow competitor. 319 runners completed the race.
