Tour of Milton Keynes - 06/09/09 - 11/09/09
Three Striders took part in the Milton Keynes Athletic Club war of attrition that is known as the tour. Comprising of 6 races of varying distances and terrains over 6 consecutive days with overall tour positions decided by accumulated time, it was always going to be a decent challenge.
Day 1 - Tattenhoe 11km. Ideal running weather greeted the Striders for the Tour opener. On a fast and flat 3 lap course Mark Shead finished 7th in 42:41, Wendy Clark was 25th in 47:06 and her husband and lover of all things DIY, Stephen Clark finished 52nd in 54:39.

Day 2 - Campbell Park 7.5km. This 2 lap course proved to be very agreeable to all three SS runners in this one with 3 new PBs. And it was nice to see the Monday night SS training group come along to offer their support. Mark finished 7th in 27:15, Wendy was 18th in 29:19 and Stephen was 39th in 32:55.

Day 3 - Brickhill Woods Hill race ~ 3.5km. The first off road race on this this tour was thankfully dry although that didn't stop Wendy from whingeing about it. Anyhow after a slight detour Mark finished 11th in 13:41, Stephen, getting the better of his wife and earning Clark household bragging rights was 34th in 15:40 and Wendy was 40th in 16:12.
At the halfway stage in this years tour Mark is currently in 6th place, Stephen in 43rd and Wendy 2nd in the women's tour standings.

Day 4 - Stantonbury Track race 1 mile. Day 4 brought about the shortest and quickest race of this years tour. All three Striders were looking to run quick times and all three managed just that. Mark finished 5th in his heat (and 9th overall on the night) in 5:20. Wendy was 7th in her race in 5:54 and Stephen was 2nd in his race in 6:36. A special mention must go out to Young Ryan James who turned up and set the fastest time of the night with a blistering 4:59.

Day 5 - Weston Underwood XC 5m - There was a new location and new 2 lap course for this years XC race and it was a splendid night for a bit of off road running. The undulating course was very much mixed terrain with gravel footpaths, loose stones, grass, woodland, mud and of course the ubiquitous ploughed fields. Mark was 7th in 32:20, Wendy, despite her hatred of offroad running, finished respectably in 29th in 38:21 and Stephen was 41st in 41:28.

Day 6 - Willen Lake 6m - Last day of the tour and Stephen and Mark were just looking to consolidate their tour positions. Wendy was in with a chance of victory in the women's race provided she could run a decent time on Friday, and she did just that, coming in over 3 minutes quicker than previously. Mark finished 7th in 39:55, Wendy was 23rd (1st women) in 44:27 and Stephen, in obvious pain, finished 47th in 50:51.
Well done to Wendy who retained her tour title and can now remain trophy less for another year.

Fusion Sports Killer K XC - 15/11/09
Mark Shead ran in this debut event organised by Big Cow/Race timing Systems/Whatevever they are called. The event, given its promising name was pretty tough and involved 2 5k loops, with a separately timed 1 kilometer (The Killer Kilometer) section in the middle of each loop. The Killer kilometer basically involved running up and down the Belvedere Hill in Campbell Park over and over again (actually just 4 times per lap but it felt a lot more). Anyhow, Mark finished 10th in 43:20. Results can be found below:
